Martensitic Stainless Steel
Martensitic stainless steel is a corrosion resistant metal which does not consist of any nickel making it a straight chromium steel. This material can also be hardened by giving it some heat treatment due the addition of carbon. This material is commonly used where strength, wear & tear resistance and hardness is needed.
This metal is also largely used for medical tools such as the razors, scalpels and the internal clamps. Martensitic stainless steel is built around the 410 Type iron composition which consists of 12% chromium and 0.12% of carbon.
The typical applications of martensitic grades:
Cutting utensils
Surgical and dental instruments
Fasteners, springs and ball bearings
Press plates
Steam and gas turbines
